presents AutumnWorkshops Crochet your own jewellery A second date for this workshop is now on offer: Saturday 20th March 2010, 2pm -3.30 pm at Precious Purl
. Your tutor will be Penny O'Neill, the "Artrageous" crochet lady. Penny's Mini CV: "I started crocheting in the 70s when I worked as a tram conductor on the Burwood-Princess Bridge route,I noticed a woman crocheting, so I asked her to teach me. Once I had mastered it, I found the circles fascinated me,they are a part of my Irish background,in standing stones, and myths. I made clothing accessories and beanies. I later went to Europe, where I was influenced by the amazing peasant designs in the Eastern Block, and the colours of the Gypsies.I began my freeform style of Artrageous crochet, using mixed textures of yarns, shredded fabrics and wild colours dyeing plain yarns for my designs. Back in OZ, I did the many markets to sell my creations and launched my famous Feral Beanies at Greville St market Prahran & St Andrews - crocheted wool with wild tendrills of hand dyed mohair fleece sprouting from the top.I then found the Alice Springs Beanie festival in 2000 and my life changed for ever. A plethora of beanies from everywhere, I entered beanie with a huge frilled neck lizard on top, and won. I have returned there every year and teach my style to the women in the desert comunities and at the festival. I was asked to design garments for Cleckheaton which led to Penny O'Neill's Artrageous Crochet book. It was launched on Rove, and on the show, I was upstaged by stuffed sheep ! I accepted their challenge to make a jumper in under an hour to beat the existing world speed crochet record set on the David Letterman show by Lily Chin. I beat her ! Rove has one of my lizard beanies which he liked to frighten the cleaners with ! These days I am concentrating on my Artrageous Crochet workshops,as well as my Born Again Bags & Hats, using felted knitwear and fabric samples as well as some of my recycled boutique jewellery from my famous Oh My God shed. I love to be able to share my knowledge with others and have a lot of fun & and laughs in the process.
